No. To create meaningful change, your nervous system must be in a state in which it can participate in the change. If your system is guarding against the potential threat of pain, it is unlikely that the work will create lasting change. Maintaining an awareness of your sensations and communicating with Dorothy during the session will lead to the most effective results.
After a brief discussion about your current condition, Dorothy will do a structural and movement analysis. The hands-on work will be done on a massage table or seated. Please wear loose fitting comfortable clothes. The entire session lasts between 60-70 minutes.
Bring or wear soft, loose, comfortable clothing. It is comfortable for you and easy for Dorothy to feel through. If you have scars that you would like her to work with, wear something that allows her to see those. If you have questions, please contact Dorothy.
Yes, and no. All Rolfers will have the same fundamental principles guiding their work and will have studied at the Rolf Institute. Their approach and techniques may vary greatly however, influenced by the additional continuing education they have taken.
This depends on your goals and your starting place. If you have never experienced holistic bodywork before, Dorothy recommends starting with three sessions to get a sense of how the work affects you and if you find it beneficial. From there you will work together to make a plan for your initial series of sessions.
After the initial sessions, clients will typically either set up some kind of maintenance schedule (monthly, quarterly, etc…) or come back in for a few sessions when issues come up.
Yes. Their bodies adapt very quickly to the work and it can help correct postural problems as they occur. Sessions for young children are typically shorter. I will work within the child’s and the parent’s comfort level.
I do not bill insurance, but I can provide a receipt that you can submit to your insurance company or FSA/HSA account for reimbursement.
My session fee is $175.
